As part of the City of Cape Town’s efforts to create integrated and sustainable communities across Cape Town, the City today handed over keys to families as part of the Scottsdene Housing Project.
83 Scottsdene families today received keys to the first completed subsidised houses of the R4 million Scottsdene Housing Project from the City of Cape Town’s Mayoral Committee Member for Human Settlements, Councillor Tandeka Gqada.
These families are the first recipients to benefit from this first pocket of the two-bedroom subsidy houses already built. “The Scottsdene Housing Project is a four-year integrated housing project in Scottsdene, Kraaifontein, where complete infrastructure development is being achieved by means of a public-private partnership between the City of Cape Town and Calgro M3 Developments. “This development is a successful example of building a truly integrated community. The idea behind the development is not to base housing just on the reliance of government funds but also to draw in the private sector to balance the forces of the housing market.
“The more than 2 000 families to be housed in the 22HA settlement will not only receive water and electricity services, but will also benefit from a new network of tarred roads, sidewalks and taxi embankments. A further important benefit is the development of new bulk infrastructure and transport services, which not only the new residents but also the wider community can look forward to. “I am committed to improving the living conditions of residents and will continue to work hard to create dignified environments for the benefit of all the people of Cape Town,” said Councillor Gqada.
The more than 2 000 units will consist of:
• 550 Breaking New Ground fully subsidised units;
• 350 Community Residential Units;
• A minimum of 500 Social Housing Units;
• Approximately 200 Affordable Housing Units for the GAP and affordable market target group.
